Creation Lesson #4 (Genesis 1:24-2:4)
In this lesson we will look at the 6th and 7th day of the re-creation. We will see the creation of cattle, creeping things, beast of the earth and man. Also we will look at where God rested on the 7th day.
Day 6 : (Genesis 1:26-31)
On the 6th day God created the cattle, the creeping thing and the beast of the field. He also created man and woman. We will look at a detailed account of how he created man and woman in Chapter two of Genesis.
- Notice that once again everything comes forth after his kind. Once again evolution is a lie.
- The “us” in verse 26 is a reference to the Trinity. Remember that Jesus was active in the creation. (John 1:3 ; Colossians 1:13-19)
- Adam is created in the “image” of God. The image of God is Jesus Christ (2 Corinthians 4:4; Colossians 3:10; Hebrews 1:3). That is why Adam is called the son of God in Luke 3:38. This is also why Jesus is called the last Adam in 1 Corinthians 15:45-47.
- When Adam is created he is created with a body, soul, and spirit. (Genesis 2:7)
- When Adam sinned he lost this image and the image of God did not show up again until Jesus came. Adam also died spiritually when he sinned and therefore His children are born in his fallen image and not the image of God. (Genesis 5:3) Remember there is no new birth in the Old Testament. The new is not possible until after the resurrection of Jesus. (1 Peter 1:3)
- Adam was told to replenish the earth and to have dominion over it. We have already commented on the replenishing part but it is interesting to see that mans dominion is to the earth. (Psalms 115:16)
- Adam and Eve are vegetarians and so are the animals (verses 29-30) remember this is before the sin and fall.
Day 7 : (Genesis 2:1-3)
On the 7th day God rested from all the work which he had made. Let us note a few things about this rest and the number 7.
- When it is said that God rested it was not that he was tired or wore out, the rest here means that he ceased from the activity that he was doing.
It is interesting to note here that there is no mentioning of the evening and the morning being the 7th day. That is because in biblical typology the 7th day and God’s rest represents the 1000 year millennial of the Lord Jesus Christ. During this reign there will be peace on earth and the earth will be at rest. The curse will also be lifted from the animal kingdom. (Isaiah 2:4; 11:6-8; 14:1-8)
- Now this makes perfect sense when we look at how God see time. Remember 1 day = 1000 years and 1000 years = 1 day. (2 Peter 3:8)
- Therefore from Adam to the 1st coming of Jesus Christ was 4000 years or 4days.
- It has been roughly 2000 years since then or 2 days.
- This gives us right at 6000 years or 6 days since Adam was created and we know that we still have the 1000 year reign of the Lord Jesus Christ to take place on this earth.
- As we saw in creation and we can also see in the book of Revelations when God completes something he does it with 7’s.
- The millennial reign of Jesus Christ will complete the 7000th year of man’s history on the earth.
- That is why the phrase “the evening and the morning was the seventh day” are not found in on the 7th
In verse 3 we see that God blesses and sanctifies the 7th day. This does not mean that the Sabbath was instituted here in Genesis 2:3. The Sabbath was not instituted until the law came in and it was a sign between God and Israel. (Ezekiel 20:20) This is why in the New Testament after the day of Pentecost keeping the Sabbath is not found for a saved person.
It is also important to note that the word generations is plural in verse 4. This supports what we taught in regards to fact that something happened between Genesis 1:1 & 1:2. By this word being plural that means that they are different from the ones in Genesis 1:1.
