Man is Like a Wild Ass’s Colt

Mark 11:1-11

The passage before us deals with the triumphant entry of Jesus Christ into Jerusalem. When Jesus rode into Jerusalem he was riding on the colt the foal of an ass. This had been prophesied in Zechariah 9:9 as well as in Genesis 49:8-11. While this presents Jesus as the king of the Jews we are going to look at the colt as a type of a lost man.

In Job 11:12 we see that Job said a vain man is born like a wild ass’s colt. This makes since because man is born lost as a result of Adam’s sin. Therefore we are all like the colt the foal of the ass we need to be broken by the Lord Jesus Christ.

The colt as a type of a lost person:

1)  The colt was tied (verse 2)

2)  No one had ever ridden him before (verse 2)

3)  He was by the door (verse 4)

4)  He was in a place where two ways met (verse 4)

5)  There was opposition to loosing the colt (verse 5)

6)  When he was brought to Jesus, he was given new clothes (verse 7)

7)  Jesus sat upon him (verse 7)

In the Old Testament the firstling an ass was to be redeemed by a lamb (Exodus 13:13). And if it was not redeemed by the Lamb then its neck was to be broken. Therefore we see that if the ass was not redeemed it was to suffer the same fate as a man who was hanged, a broken neck. (Deuteronomy 21:22-23). When a man hanged on a tree he was said to be cursed. Jesus was said to have redeemed us from the curse of the Law by being crucified on a tree. (Galatians 3:13).

So as a type of a wild ass’s colt you will either be redeemed by the lamb or bear you own sins and die as a cursed man. The solution is simple believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and be saved.
