Being Unmovable 1 Cor. 15:58 CLICK TITLE FOR AUDIO
In the passage before us we see that as a result of the resurrection of Jesus Christ and the victory that he gives us over the law, sin, death, and corruption that we should be steadfast and unmoveable in our work for the Lord. In this sermon we will look at some things that will help us to be unmoveableb taking a spiritual application from a Psalm in the Old Testament.
Psalms 15:1-5 (He that doeth these things shall never be moved)
In the Psalm given above we see an interesting question given in verse 1. The question is who shall abide in thy tabernacle. Then at the end of the Psalm we see the phrase “he that doeth these things shall never be moved. So let us look at what is in between these verses and see some of the things that will help us to not be moved.
1) Walking uprightly, worketh righteousness, and speaketh the truth in his heart (verse 2)
- In these things we see everyday simple things such as prayer, reading our bible, and making sure every step we take is in line with what God would have us to do.
- These seem like small things but it is usually the little thing that go unnoticed that cause us to move off course the most.
- Colossians 1:10 with 1 Thessalonians 2:12-13 are good verses to go with this.
2) Do not back bite or do evil to your neighbor (verse 3)
- When it comes to moving saved people away from God the tongue does a lot of damage in our churches today (James 3:5-8 ; Galatians 5:15)
3) We must have the right view of sin (verse 4)
- Isaiah 5:20 is an excellent verse to go with this one. Today the world calls evil good and good evil. If we are not careful as saved people we can get a distorted view of sin and people who commit those sins.
- The wrong view can definitely move you off course when you are serving the Lord.
4) Keep your word (verse 4)
- Finding a man of his word in the world today is very difficult. The more we lie or break our word the easier it is to do it the next time.
- Also we should not over speak or let our mouth get us into something that we know we cannot do (Luke 14:28-33).
5) Keep money in its proper place (verse 5)
- Money is a very dangerous things because of the love that we can develop for it (1 Timothy 6:10).
- If we are not careful the lure of money can move us completely off course when it comes to serving God.
The last thing we will look at is found back in 1 Corinthians 15:58. We must serve God from the heart and not be concerned with results that we can see down here (Colossians 3:23-24). If we get concerned with what we are doing down here whether it be to please man or to see results and judge ourselves among ourselves then we will be moved off course and for some it is permanent.
Let us labor for the Lord and serve him and let God get the glory and the results that he desires.
