Introduction: We’ve been studying a series regarding the Gifts of the Sprit. Last week we went through the gifts of the Spirit found in Romans 12 to learn a little bit about each one, to see what they are and how they may manifest themselves in the lives of the believer. This week, we want to focus on finding out what our Spiritual Gift(s) may be. These four simple things will help us find out which spiritual Gift(s) we may have.
How can you find out your Spiritual Gift(s):
I. Walk with God– Ephesians 4:8 “and gave gifts unto men”. Who gave the gifts? God gifts the believer with spiritual gifts. The gifts of the Spirit are dispensed to the believer according to the will of God. God decided how He wanted to gift YOU personally, and because of it, all you have to do is walk with God to find out. God desire for you to know what your spiritual gift is!
- Ask– Undoubtedly, you ask God for many things. Have you asked God what your spiritual gift is? What is God telling you?
- James 1:4 “ye have not, because ye ask not”.
- Luke 11:5-10 “For EVERY ONE that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened.”
- Then Listen– Fellowship with God and yielded to the Spirit. God speaks to those that are walking with Him. What we have with Christ is not a religion but a relationship.
- Matthew 21:22 “And all things, whatsoever ye shall ask in prayer, believing, ye shall receive”. If you have asked God what your spiritual gift is, then you will receive an answer. God wants you to know exactly what it is. John 14:14 Jesus says “If ye shall ask any thing in my name, I will do it”.
II. Desire the Gift– I Corinthians 12:31 “But covet (desire) earnestly the best gifts”. I Corinthians 14:1 “and desire spiritual gifts”.
- What is desire (longing or reaching towards. A wish to possess some gratification or source of happiness which is supposed to be obtainable).
- What is your desire? You must have a desire to do that “thing”.
- Example- In Ephesians 4:8 & 11 Jesus Christ gave gifts unto the church, one of which was the Pastor. In I Timothy 3:1 “This is a true saying, if a man desire the office of a bishop, he desireth a good work”.
- The thing about this gift and all the other gifts, is that “you’ve got to want to do it”. If you have no desire to do it, that is probably not your gift- you should have some sort of excitement and joy when doing that.
- Romans 12:8 “he that giveth, with simplicity”. “he that ruleth, with diligence”. “he that showeth mercy, with cheerfulness”.
- Proverbs 13:19 “The desire accomplished is sweet to the soul”.
- Once you attain something that you have been longing for, it is sweet to the soul. Your life has found meaning and purpose.
III. Start Serving– Are you serving? You cannot find out how God has gifted you aside from serving in the local church with the body of believers, get involved. Come to church and get plugged in. Your gift and service is for the edification of the body.
- John 12:23-26 “If any man serve me, let him follow me”. When you are serving God, the Lord is right there with you. God is pleased and you are honored of God.
- Serve in that which Christ has given you. Philemon 6 “That the communication of thy faith may become effectual by the acknowledging of every good thing which is in you in Christ Jesus”. Acknowledge what you got is from Jesus Christ. James 1:17 “Every good gift and every perfect gifts is from above”.
- Testimony– I started cleaning around the church, then got discipled, then started teaching the college and career class, then preaching opportunities, lastly helped in starting a church plant. It’s not about progressing to “something better”, it’s about serving to find out where you fit best doing what you absolutely enjoy doing.
- When you start serving, others will confirm it- I Corinthians 12:4-7 “to profit withal”. This gift will be a blessing to others that see you doing exactly what you were designed to do.
IV. Remain Faithful– Romans 12:6 “let us” vs 8 “let him do it”. Are you being faithful by doing that which God gave you? Even in the minimal tasks.
- Exodus 36:1-2 when your heart is stirred up to do something for the Lord, do it, and do it faithfully. God will give you the wisdom and understanding for it.
- Genesis 39:4, 8, 22-23 Joseph was faithful in what he was given to do and God prospered that which he did, Genesis 41:40.
- Don’t just tuck away your gift somewhere and fail to use it. Paul told Timothy in I Timothy 4:14 “neglect not the gift that is in thee”.
- Matthew 25:20 “well done thou good and faithful servant”. Faithful people are given responsibilities, because they can be counted on. Start serving, soon your spiritual Gifts will become apparent, and be faithful at it.
Conclusion: I Corinthians 14:33 “For God is not the author of confusion, but of peace, as in all churches of the saints”. God doesn’t want you to be confused regarding your spiritual gift, but wants to give you peace and joy.
Because of your Spiritual Gifts, you have an opportunity to do something great for God. Something that pleases God and something you really enjoy doing and being a part of. Furthermore, your gift will help and benefit the body of believers.
God took the time to give you a very special and specific gift, find out what it is, and use it for His Glory.
