Running to Win
1 Corinthians 9:24-27
Paul in this passage likens serving God to a race. There are many ways that we can liken our lives to racing. In Hebrews 12:1 the example is used again in this lesson we are going to look at the things Paul said regarding running our race in to run to win. Running to win is what will make the difference in the end.
How can we run to win?
1) We must be temperate in all things (1 Corinthians 9:25)
- Temperance is self-control. In training for any type of race self-control will be essential to success.
- Note that we must be temperate in all things not just somethings.
2) We must run with purpose (1 Corinthians 9:26)
- In order to know how to train you must know what type of race you are going to run.
- If we are going to be successful we must have a purpose, then train and work toward that purpose in the best manner.
3) We must run with patience (Hebrews 12:1)
- Life is more of a marathon than a sprint. We must be patience success does not usually happen overnight.
- The key is to know our purpose, prepare and work hard for that purpose, then be faithful in doing the day to day things until that purpose is accomplished.
4) We must keep our eyes on the prize (Hebrews 12:2)
- There will be many hardships and setbacks along the way. But remember to keep your eyes on the prize.
Let us take this information and run not to place or just to show, but run that we may obtain the prize.
